Peugeot released the first images and details of the new generation of the 308, which will probably improve its position in the highly competitive compact hatchback segment.

The 308 will debut at the Frankfurt show in September while sales will start in a few markets in late 2013 and some from January 2014.

It features LED lights at front-back, having a length of 4.25 meters and a height of 1.46 meters, making it slightly smaller and lower than the previous generation of the 308. Inside everything is arranged in a way so that the driver can concentrate exclusively on driving. It features a head-up display in the instrument panel, and a large 9.7  inch touchscreen.

Peugeot says that the new 308 has better quality than the previous generation, as each element of the interior and the exterior, has been developed and refined with extreme attention to detail. The luggage compartment now reaches 470 liters.

It is built on the EMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform 2) architecture which reduces the weight of 308 by 140 kg while at the same time it improves driveability. The platform is made of steel, aluminum and other composite materials with PSA promising increased safety, driving pleasure, comfort and reduced fuel consumption.

Peugeot does not mention what engines will be equipped on the 308 but there will be a version that will have CO2 emissions of just
85 g / km. Probably it will be equipped with a range of four-cylinder and three-cylinder petrol and diesel engines from 1.2 to 2.0 liters, producing from 90 to 160 horsepower, and there will be the hybrid HYbrid4 version, which combines a diesel engine with an electric motor. The strongest version of the 308 GTI will produce 200 horses.

The new Peugeot 308 will be built in the factory of Sochaux in France, while the factories of the cities Trémery and Douvrin, will manufacture the engines.
