Heinz-Jakob Neusser, head of engine development of the Volkswagen Group said that future 911 models will not be equipped with eight-cylinder boxer engines. Neusser said that an eight-cylinder boxer engine was on the stage prior to development, but finally the project was abandoned. He added that such an engine should have been at least 5 liters in capacity, which is too large for the 911, which will continue to be equipped with six-cylinder engines.

The renewed 911 will be presented at the Frankfurt auto show in September and it will be available with turbo six-cylinder boxer engines.
