Peugeot has announced that a 208 equipped with the 1.6 BlueHDi 100 diesel engine, managed to set a new world record for fuel consumption.

The car managed to cover a distance of 2152 km, consuming only 43 liters of diesel, which means it had an average consumption of 2 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. This performance, was recorded on a track in Belchamp France in late April and the whole process was supervised by the French UTAC. The car was a “strict factory” 208 1.6 BlueHDi 100 S&S with a manual 5 speed transmission, spoiler and Michelin Energy Saver + tires. To cover the distance, the car was driving for 38 hours while “several drivers” were behind the wheel of the car for 3 to 4 hours each.
