BMW will present the X4 Concept at the Shanghai report and these are the first pictures of the car. BMW believes that the X4 will help to broaden it’s clientele, it believes that the car will attract young people.

It is codenamed F26 and is based on the chassis of the X3, but it has a stronger sloping roofline. It will cost less than the X5 and it is 4.65 meters in length, with other dimensions similar to the X3. The car has stylistic influences from the X6, LED lights, sculptured bonnet, twin tailpipes, and it will be the “rival” of the Porsche Cajun and the Range Rover Evoque.

The production will start in 2014 and it will take place at the BMW factory in Spartanburg, South Carolina. For this reason, the Bavarians will increase the output of the factory from 300,000 to 350,000 units annually. This is the factory that the BMW X3, X5 and X6 will be manufactured, while the X1 is manufactured at the Leipzig factory in Germany, and in the BMW factory in China.

It will be available with a choice of four-cylinder and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, similar to those of the X3, the power will be transferred to all four wheels through a 6 speed manual or a 7 speed dual clutch automatic or a new 8-speed Steptronic. Two of the engines will be a 2.0-liter turbo producing 240 hp with 352 Nm of torque and a 3.0 liter turbo producing 300 hp with 406 Nm of torque.

The M version will be positioned opposite the Porsche Macan Turbo and it will feature an aggressive looking bodykit and a roof made of CFRP.  It will be equipped with a six-cylinder engine as the new M3 and M4, producing 415 hp, which will be combined with automatic M-DCT gearbox, which will send power to all four wheels. It will feature power steering, sports suspension and rear axle with torque-vectoring system.
