Maserati released the first three official photos of the Ghibli, which will debut on 21 October, in the Shanghai autoshow. Maserati confirms that the Ghibli will be available with two turbo 3,0-liter V6 engine, which will be combined with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission with paddles on the steering wheel, which will send the power to the rear wheels or on all four wheels.
The Ghibli is the first model of Maserati equipped with a diesel engine, the 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. It borrows design elements from the Quattroporte, but has a more attractive and aggressive look. At the interior and on the back, things are moving in the same design philosophy as the Quattroporte.
It will be built at the former factory of Bertone (Carrozzeria Bertone), which was acquired by Fiat three years ago and it will use the same subframe and electrically adjustable suspension as the Quattroporte. It will be based on the same rearwheel-drive platform as the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Lancia Thema. The car has been codenamed M157 and the design has been done by Pininfarina and it will be placed opposite the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series and Mercedes E-Class.
