BMW presented the 2-Series Coupe at Detroit although the car had already been officially presented some weeks ago. The 2-Series Coupe will replace the 1-Series Sedan, having a particularly impressive figure, with a bold distinctive design and LED lights.
It has larger dimensions than the 1-Series Coupe, and thus the 2-Series has a length of 4.432 mm, 108 mm larger than the 1-Series, and 72 mm larger than the 1-Series Coupe. The width measures 1.774 mm, (26 mm more from its predecessor ) , the height of 1.418 mm (5 mm less), the wheelbase has grown to over 30 mm, reaching 2.690 mm. Regarding the tracks , the front width is 1.521 mm (41 mm more) and the back 1.556 mm (43 mm more). The increased dimensions, except of providing more space at the interior, have also increased the luggage space, which now reaches 390 liters ( +20 liters ). Regarding the aerodynamic coefficient , the BMW 220i Coupe version has a coefficient og 0.29 Cd.
The interior features the iDrive knob located next to the parking brake handle, the console is facing toward the driver, there are several aluminum decoratives and a large ConnectedDrive (6,5 inch or 8.8 inch) screen system. BMW has placed on the 2 series a navigation system, High Beam Assistant, Adaptive Headlights, Parking Assistant, rear view camera , cruise control with automatic braking system, Real Time Traffic Information, Online Entertainment and connection with smartphones and music players.
For the interior there are options of cloth (in three colors) or leather upholstery. The Satin Silver is fitted as standard with aluminum and wooden being on the additional equipment .
In terms of engines, the Series 2 will be equipped with engines that have a Start/Stop system. Initially the BMW 220i Coupe will be available with a 2.0 liter turbo four-cylinder engine producing 184 hp, the BMW 218d Coupe with a 2.0 liter diesel engine producing 143 hp, the BMW 220d Coupe with a 2.0 liter diesel engine producing 184 hp , the BMW 225d Coupe with a 2.0 liter diesel engine producing 218 hp and a the BMW M235i with a 3.0 liter six cylinder engine producing
The rear-wheel drive Series 2 will be available with three equipment packages (Sport Line, Modern Line and M Sport package) with engines combined to a 6- speed manual or an 8 – speed automatic transmission.
The M235i will be equipped with the 3.0 liter six cylinder N55 TwinPower engine producing 326 bhp at 5800-6000 rpm and 450 Nm of torque between 1,300 and 4,500 rpm featuring a locking differential.This engine enables the car to do the 0-100 km/h in 5.0 seconds with the 6-speed manual transmission and 4.8 seconds with the 8- speed automatic transmission, having in both cases a top speed electronically limited 250 km/hour. With the manual transmission the car will weigh 1,455 kilos and 1,470 kilos with the automatic transmission. It will have an average fuel consumption of 8.1 litres/100 km ( 7.6 with the automatic transmission ), with 189 g/km emissions of CO2 (176 g/km with the automatic transmission). Sales will begin in Germany from March 2014.
