Ferrari presented the 488 Spider, the convertible version of the 488 GTB that will debut at the Frankfurt auto show in September. According to Ferrari, the 488 Spider is the most powerful mid-engine V8 car with a hard top roof, while it is the most aerodynamic Spider model that has been produced by the company.

It features a dual front spoiler, new side skirts, a new rear bumper with a diffuser, a rear spoiler and active aerodynamic devices. The chassis of the 488 Spider is made from 11 different aluminum alloys and other metals, such as magnesium. This provides the same torsional stiffness as the 488 GTB, while the retractable hardtop roof, consists of two parts and it folds in 14 seconds.

It is equipped with a 3.9 liter V8 engine which delivers 670 hp at 8,000 rpm with 760 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm, that enables it to do the 0-100 km/h in three seconds, the 0-200 km/h in 8.7 seconds and the quarter-mile in 10.55 seconds, having a top speed of 325 km/h. The engine is combined with a seven speed gearbox, while the car has a variable torque management system.
The car weighs 1,420 kilos, 50 kilos more than the 488 GTB and 10 kilos less than the 458 Spider, while it has a weight ratio of 41.5% in front and 58.5% behind, with an average consumption of 11.4 liters/100 km. It stands on 20 inch wheels, while the luggage compartment reaches 230 liters.

Ferrari has upgraded also the Side Slip Control System 2 (SSC2). The interior features new graphics on the infotainment system, a new dashboard that has been completely redesigned, new seats and a key, that draws inspiration from the V8 engine. Sales of the car will begin towards the end of the year.
