The new Jeep Cherokee was presented at the Geneva Motor Show, as it was expected from the announcement of Jeep in early February.
The car is based on the Compact US Wide (CUSW) platform of Chrysler, the same platform as the Dodge Dart and the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, and it is the first model of Jeep wearing a brand new V6 3,2 liter engine producing 272 hp @ 6,500 rpm with 316 Nm of torque @ 4,300 rpm. It is also available with a 2.4 liter Tiger Shark petrol engine producing 177 hp @ 6,400 rpm with 229 Nm of torque @ 3,900 rpm It weighs 181 kilos less than the Liberty and it has an independent front and rear suspension, while it is the first model offered with a 9 speed automatic transmission. Finally, it will be available also with the 2.0 liter Turbodiesel Multijet II with a Start/Stop system, producing 170 hp @ 3,750 rpm and 350 Nm of torque @ 1,500 rpm, combined with a 9 speed automatic transmission. The same engine also exists at the version with 140 hp @ 3,750 rpm with 350 Nm of torque @ 1,500 rpm, combined with a 6 – speed manual gearbox.
It will be available in three wheel drive systems Active Drive I, Active Drive II and Active Drive Lock. At the interior it features, rear seats that fold down with a 60/40 rate, a 3,5 inch LED monochrome monitor or (optionally) a 7 inch color monitor in the center of the instrument panel. In the center of the dashboard there is a 5 inch touch screen (8,4 inch Uconnent in the additional equipment). In terms of safety, the new Cherokee features several systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control-Plus, ParkSense, Forward Collision Warning-Plus, Adaptive Cruise Control-Plus, Lane Departure Warning-Plus and many others.
