Geneva Motor show 2015: Koenigsegg Regera

Koenigsegg presented at Geneva the Regera, a luxury megacar with 1,800 hp and more than 2.000 Nm of torque. Koenigsegg characterizes the Regera as the most powerful and fastest accelerating production car ever built.

It is equipped with a 5.0 liter V8 twin-turbo engine producing 1,100 hp, combined with three electric motors, two placed on each rear wheel and one on the crankshaft having a torque vectoring system.

The Regera does not features a classic gearbox, but something Koenigsegg calls Direct Drive Transmission. This system replaces the conventional gearbox, and essentially is a hydraulic clutch that reduces transmission losses, and provides unhindered power to the rear wheels. With this system Koenigsegg saved 200 kilos, compared with a double clutch automatic transmission.

The liquid-cooled batteries are of 620 volt, they have a capacity of 9,27 kWh and they weight 115 kilos. The batteries can make the electric motors produce an instantaneous 500 kW (680) hp, and more than 150 kW (204 hp) during acceleration, while charging during braking through the energy recovery system. The batteries are charged through an outlet located at the rear of the car. The Regera has an electric autonomy of up to 50 km.

The exhausts of the V8 engine are made of titanium, designed by Christian von Koenigsegg and implemented by Akrapovic. The traction control and ESP systems have three modes (wet, normal and track), with the car being able to make the the 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, the 150-250 km/h in 3.2 seconds and the 0-400 km/h in less than 20 seconds.

The car weighs 1.628 kilos with liquid and gas, having a fully robotic body that allows the driver to open the roof, trunk, move the mirrors, doors and spoiler, through an application on his smartphone. The interior features 3G connectivity, MMI with Apple Car play, camera, electric seats, with the engine mounted on active mounts that help reduce the sound inside the cabin. Just 80 Regera will be built and the car will be available worldwide. In the US it will cost about $1.89 million.
