The new Defender is being prepared by Land Rover and it will be launched in 2018. The new car, according to Gerry McGovern, boss of the company, will look like a “modern Defender” with its design to be different from that of the present generation, borrowing elements from the Land Rover DC100 concept, with McGovern to promise that “people will immediately recognize it is a Defender”.
The new Defender will be offered in five different body styles: a two-door with a short wheelbase and a hardtop, a two-door with a short wheelbase and soft top, a four-door with a long wheelbase and a hardtop, a two-door pickup with a short wheelbase and a four-door pickup with a long wheelbase.
Rumors say that Land Rover will build the next generation of the Defender on a new factory in Eastern Europe, while it will be available with many engines among which a 3 liter V6 with 300 hp. All engines will be combined with either a 6-speed manual transmission, or a 9-speed automatic.
