The head of the M Motorsport part of BMW, Frank van Meel said that the future of manual transmissions in M models of BMW is not bright. Specifically, van Meel said that competition between the automatic dual-clutch DCT transmission and the ordinary automatic transmission of BMW is good for the company, but manual transmissions may soon become a thing of the past because of constantly decreasing trends in sales.

Technically, the future is not bright for manual-shift gearboxes. The DCT and single-clutch automatic transmissions are faster and reduce fuel consumption.
It is difficult to say that we will persevere the manual, but we have a large fan community of the manual gearboxes in the company and we will give them something they want.
Said van Meel.
