Mercedes is developing the next generation of the CLS, with the luxury four-door coupe sedan to start its sales from mid-2018. Its design will follow the philosophy of the S-Class, E-Class and C-Class, but it will also have a sloping roofline.

Possibly the Shooting Brake version of the CLS will be cancelled, with the car to be constructed on the MRA platform and to have also autonomous technology. It will be offered with six-cylinder and eight-cylinder engines and also in a plug-in hybrid version.
