Mercedes presented today at a special event, in Sweden, the X-Class Concept, a concept car that shows us how the pick up of the company will look like, which will go into production in Europe in late 2017.

The prototype was presented in two versions, one focused on style and one focused on off-road capabilities. Technical details were not revealed by the company, other than those that were already known. The car is based on the platform of the new Nissan Navara and it is available with a turbodiesel V6 engine that sends the power to all the wheels. It has differential locks on both axles, a payload of 1,100 kg, it can tow 3.5 tons and is equipped with a variety of driver assistance systems.

The interior of the car features a leather upholstery, luxury materials, a large screen in the center of the dashboard, wooden decorations and aluminum details.

The basic version is aimed at traditional customers of pickups models, with the top version to have a more luxurious touch, similar in concept to the Denali versions of the GMC pickups. There will not be an AMG version, as the demand for such models is almost nonexistent. However, the company will offer AMG styling packages that will make the appearance of the pickup more aggressive.

Mercedes describes the model as “a real Mercedes” that will provide the same level of high quality as other models of the German company. The crew cab pickup will be developed and designed by Daimler to meet its customers needs, while having all the features of Mercedes-Benz safety.

The production version of the X-Class Concept will be sold in Europe, Latin America, Australia and South Africa, but not in the US. The production of the X-Class will be made at the Renault and Nissan factories in Cordoba, Argentina and in Barcelona.
