Specifically, researchers from the Research Center for Nissan in Silicon Valley and the Ames Research Center of NASA in Moffett Field, California, will focus on autonomous automotive systems with advanced solutions in a two-way communication between a passenger and the car and also in related applications with the ability to operate in a network environment, but also to analyze the necessary software. To achieve this, they will use sophisticated hardware and software, used in space applications.

In a next step, researchers from both organizations will test a fleet of autonomous vehicles with zero emissions, in order to ascertain their proper functioning of the movement of equipment, goods, payloads and passengers. The first vehicle of this fleet, is planned to go to testing on the premises of NASA, by the end of 2015.
