Lancia had presented the HIT, that was based on the Delta HF Integrale and it used the same 2-liter, 8 valve engine that produced 188 hp and the same all-wheel drive system.
The Lancia HIT had a chassis made from carbon fibre, with other parts of its body made of kevlar and fiberglass. The HIT was presented to show the way Lancia visualized the future of sports cars, while aiming at a more special buying public and researching new design lines, technologies and materials.
The interior of the car had a carbon fiber dashboard, red seats and racing seat belts. The weight of the car was kept under the tone, being just 980 kilos, which means that it was 235 kg lighter than the Integrale.
