Peugeot at the Paris exhibition presented the 208 HYbrid Air 2L Concept, along with its other models. The 208 HYbrid Air 2L Concept is 100 kilos lighter than the 208 HYbrid FE concept, because of the more extensive use of carbon and aluminum.
It is equipped with a 1.2 liter three-cylinder gasoline engine, with a compressed air system, a hydraulic motor and an automatic gearbox. More details are not announced by PSA except that the engine has three modes, one that it only uses gasoline, using only air and the final mode which is using both gasoline and air. When the car is driven in the city, with the Air mode active, the 208 has zero CO2 emissions and zero fuel consumption.
Peugeot says that the compressed air tank can be filled either when the driver is moving at slow speeds, or using the energy developed by the three-cylinder petrol engine. Regardless of the method, the tank reaches the maximum pressure in just 10 seconds. The aim of the Peugeot is to get the system on the market until 2016.
