Paris motor show 2014 Volkswagen Passat

Volkswagen presented the new Passat in Paris. The car features an evolutionary design, making it look more formal. The new model of Volkswagen is built on the MQB platform, and it is lighter than the current model, with a larger wheelbase to offer more space for rear passengers and a larger trunk. It has abundant technology, driving aids and gadgets to be liked by a wider and younger audience.

The length has been reduced by 2 mm. reaching 4,767 mm, but its wheelbase is 33 mm longer, being now 2.79 meters. This means that it offers more space for rear passengers and a larger trunk. The increase of the wheelbase is achieved by transferring the front axle forward by 29 mm, and the back backwards by 177 mm. Also, it is 6 mm. lower, reaching 1,456 mm. height, and 12 mm. wider, with a total width of 1.832 mm.

With regard to the luggage area, for the sedan version it is increased by 21 liters, now reaching 586 liters, while the trunk space for the Variant version has increased by 47 liters, reaching 650 liters and by folding the seat it reaches 1,780 liters.

The rear seat backs fall to 40:20:40, allowing the transport of objects with length of even 2.85 meters. Finally, the front seats are fitted at 10 mm. lower, while there are 26 mm. more for the head of the passengers.

It will be available with a 1.6 liter TDI engine producing 120 hp, a new twin turbo 2,0 liter TDI engine producing 150, 190 and 240 hp, a 1.4 liter TSI with 125 and 150 hp with half cylinder deactivation system , a 1.8 liter TSI with 180 hp, but also with  a 2 liter TSI with 220 and 280 hp.

The interior features a digital dashboard of 12.3 inches with a resolution of 1.440 × 540 px, with Volkswagen also offering a heads-up display, the 360 ​​degree Area View system, automatic parking, as well as the Trailer Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Side Assist with Rear Traffic Alert, Emergency Assist, City Emergency Braking and Front Assist systems.

The new VW Passat in Germany will cost from € 25.875 for the sedan version and from € 25.950 for the Variant.
