The new generation of the BMW 5-Series will be presented at the Paris auto show this October and according to rumors the company is preparing two plug-in hybrid versions for the range of the 5-Series. The mechanical parts of these cars will come from the 330e, but they will have more power in order to cope with the greater weight of the cars.

One of the cars will be called 530e and it will feature a 2 liter, turbocharged, four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor that have a combined power of 280 hp, with the full electric range reaching about 35 kilometers.
The second model will be called 540e and it will have a 2 liter, four-cylinder gasoline turbo engine delivering 258 hp, combined with an electric motor that yields 95 hp, with the total power output being 326 hp. The liquid-cooled electric motor of this version will offer the same range as the 530e, while its hybrid power plant will be combined to a new 9-speed automatic transmission, with the power transferred to the rear axle, while the xDrive all-wheel drive system will be offered as an optional.
