Volkswagen gave the sketches and features of the new generation of the Passat. The family model of VW, as shown by the sketches has a more aggressive design with subtle grille, thin lights, inflated fenders, chrome details and dual tailpipes.
The model will be constructed on the MQB platform and it will be lighter than the current model, with a larger wheelbase to offer more space for rear passengers and a larger trunk. It will have abundant technology, driving aids and gadgets to be liked in a broader and younger audience. The interior features a 12.3 inch screen, a heads-up display and a system of information and entertainment that can be synchronized with smartphones and tablets.
The new Passat will be available with the new twin turbo 2,0 liter TDI engine producing 240 hp with 500 Nm of torque, which will be combined to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission that sends power to all wheels. With this engine, the new Passat has an average consumption of close to 5 litres/100 km, it will also be available with TSI and TDI engines of capacity of 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 liters producing from 116 to 280 hp.
It is expected to make its debut in October at the Paris Exhibition and in 2015 the plug-in hybrid version will be released, combining the 1.4 TSI engine and an electric motor, the hybrid system generates combined 170 horses and can move exclusively with batteries for 50 kilometers.
