According to rumors the next generation of the Opel Astra which will be presented at the Frankfurt auto show in September, will be built on the D2XX platform and it will weigh about 120-200 kilos less than the current generation, while it will also have a shorter wheelbase by 23 millimeters, with the car’s overall length being reduced by 49 mm.

However the space for the passengers will grow by 34 millimeters and the interior will feature a three-spoke steering wheel, improved seats and a new infotainment system with a touch screen.

The car will be available with a range of three-cylinder and four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines between which there is a four-cylinder 1.6 liter gasoline engine producing 200 hp.

Opel has announced that the Astra OPC will be launched in 2017 and that it will be equipped with a 1.6 liter turbo engine producing close to 280 hp.
