Kia presented the new Sorento in South Korea, with the model to make its debut at the Paris auto show in early October. The Korean crossover is characterized by an evolutionary design, that looks more dynamic, curved, muscular and more luxurious than its predecessor, adopting the latest design language Kia. It features thin light fixtures, LED daytime running lights, roof rails, slightly sloping roof line, large alloy wheels, chrome decorations, spoiler and twin tailpipes.
The length reaches 4.780 mm, height 1.685 mm while the wheelbase has grown by 80 mm, reaching 2.780 mm. The interior has “many innovative features” the dashboard is lined with soft materials and a “series of advanced on-board technologies.” The interior is a result of the european design team the KIA, which is based in Frankfurt, borrowing several design elements of the modern Swiss watches. The simple layout of the dashboard is combined with a three-spoke steering wheel and a wide leather center armrest, while rear seat passengers benefit from centrally mounted vents. There is also a fairly large size touch screen infotainment system that controls various parameters. The audio system is of JBL, the panoramic roof is made of CFRP and the luggage space is 515 liters in the version with seven seats and 605 liters in the five-seat version.
The new Sorento will be equipped with a 2.0 liter turbo four-cylinder gasoline engine producing 186 hp with 402 Nm of torque, the 2.2 liter CRDI turbodiesel producing 202 hp with 441 Nm of torque, a 2.4 liter petrol engine, the 3.3 liter GDI V6 engine and a 2.3 liter hybrid that works with an electric motor which is powered by a lithium-ion battery of 47 kWh.
