This idea is part of the deal that has been made by the conservative Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Social Democrats, and despite intense criticism from other Member States of the European Union. Nevertheless, the German ADAC auto club has said that this measure would not be enough to cover the maintenance costs of the highways, generating questions about the real reason that German politicians want to implement it.
