In 2012 the CEO of Porsche, Matthias Muller, declared that the hybrid 911 will go to production only if there are serious environmental reasons. Since then, the environmental reasons mentioned by Muller have made their appearance with the ever-stricter emission regulations and Porsche has at the moment three hybrid cars in their range. In 2018, it will have four, as it was implied by Erhard Mossle, chief of product line of Porsche.

The Volkswagen Group needs an answer to Tesla. The technology available is not far from the goals we have set for the autonomy and the charging time for such a car.
said Mossle
Yet nothing is certain. The final decision will be made later this year, but according to rumors Porsche is considering both a hybrid version and a pure electric 911.
