Ford has become the second company that decides to place Gorilla Glass on a car. The first car company to do this, was BMW with the i8. Ford announced that the new GT’s windscreen and rear windshield will be made from Gorilla Glass.
This special glass of Corning is placed in several smartphones and tablets and it is highly durable and scratch-resistant. It is also significantly stronger than traditional glass and much lighter. A windshiled made of this glass can weigh up to 5.5 kg less than a traditional windshield, being from 25-50 % thinner than conventional glasses, while also offering better soundproofing.
