The NM4 Vultus is a new production model, which goes beyond conventional forms of motorcycle design!
Honda does not usually show bikes that are beyond the average user’s preferences . However , as with the DN-01, it occasionally does, wanting to give more freedom to designers but also to see the preferences of buyers from a different perspective (not through marketing ). This is exactly the case with Vultus, the new motorcycle that was presented by the Japanese company.
As we are informed by Honda, «Vultus» means in Latin “expression – facial appearance “. Honda let a free a group of young designers from 20 to 30 years who used inspiration from the stunning futuristic motorcycles we see in the Japanese «anime» movies, to design the Vultus. These influences are seen everywhere and of course at the massive front of the Vultus. What makes the new bike even more special is the fact that it is only available in one color : black matt ! Obviously this emphasizes all the best lines and the “character” of the Vultus, with built-in fairing mirrors and LED lights,embedded in the sharp tip.
Its width amounts to 810 mm. (933 if counted together with the mirrors). Saddle height does not exceed 650 mm. something that makes the bike very low. According to Honda, the rider sits “surrounded” by the “cockpit”, with the digital instrument panel to be able to change color depending on the selected mode of the semi-automatic transmission! The rider, in fact, can choose between five different colors and 25 different shades. As you can see in the pictures the passenger seat can be turned to a backrest for the rider that determines both tilt ( 3 levels ) and length (25 mm . Backwards and forwards ) adjusting the position to the size of the rider.
The Vultus beyond special design, it also has some elements of practicality, with respect to the storage spaces. Two lockers are fitted to the front of the fairing, with the left of one-liter, to have 12 volt power supply that locks from the main switch. The right storage space is triple in volume and opens with its own button.
The engine of the Vultus is a parallel twin engine of 745 ml having two balance shafts derived unchanged from the NC series. It produces 54 hp and 67.6 Nm of torque @ 6,250 and 4,750 rpm respectively. According to Honda the fuel consumption of the Vultus is limited to 3.52 litres/100 km So despite the tank of 11.6 liters, the autonomy of the 245 kg Vultus is 300 km. The engine is combined with the DCT dual-clutch gearbox ,, with different modes and the option for manual gear changes.
The steel tube frame seems to be based on that of the NC, however, it has changes in geometry with greater caster angle ( 33 degrees from 27) and a wheelbase that has grown by 100 mm. (about 1,645,, in total) . The aluminum ten spoke wheels are specially designed for the Vultus and the front one is 18 inches while the rear is 17 inches, having a tire width of 200 mm! The weight distribution is 49/51, front – rear respectively. The swingarm is made of aluminum. Finally, the braking system of Vultus consists of discs with diameter 320 mm. at the front, with two-piston calipers and 240 mm discs at the back (single piston calipe ) , with the two-channel ABS being a standard.The extra equipment includes a taller windshield, heated grips, alarm and suitcases.
