Mercedes-Benz officially announced the A45 AMG, the fast version of the A-Class, which will be presented at the Geneva Show. With this car, Mercedes aims at an audience age between 30 and 45 years, much younger than the usual AMG owners of a car.

Stylistically it has a new bodykit with trapezoidal tailpipes and honeycomb grille with sales to start in April. At the interior there are new leather bucket seats, red seatbelts, big paddles and black leather and alcantara fabric.Under the hood, the car has a new 2.0 liter four cylinder turbo engine, codenamed M270 Evo, which has a special cylinder head, a unique intake system and some other changes. It produces 360 hp at 6,000 rpm with 450 Nm of torque between 2,250 to 5,000 rpm.

The engine is combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT automatic transmission with a Race Start function that sends power to all four wheels. The 0-100 km/h is completed in 4.6 seconds with the top speed to be limited to 250 km/h. The “Performance package” will have a top speed of 279 km/h. It has an average fuel consumption of 6.9 to 7.1 l/100 km and 161-165 g/km emissions of CO2.The same engine will be installed in the CLA AMG 45 and CLA AMG 45 Shooting Break. The engine will in the MDC factory of Mercedes, in Kölleda. Each AMG engine will have the signature of the engineer who built it.

The a45 amg will be equipped with a sport lower (by 25mm) suspension consisting of MacPherson struts in front and multi-link at the back. It will features large AMG brakes, ESP with 3 settings with a setting for SPORT Handling. It will have 18 inch alloy wheels (19 inch are included in additional equipment, tire size of 235/35) with Dunlop Sport Maxx tires measuring 235/40. Sales will begin in July, but prices have not been disclosed yet.
