The BMW X6 proved to be a very good investment for the German company, which hopes to continue its success, by releasing the next-generation model of the X6 in 2014.It is based on the third generation X5 and according to the latest information it will adopt a more aggressive look that will make it diferrent from the X5. A source inside the company said”We want to give to our sport models a more individual look that separates them visually from the rest of our line-up”
The next generation will be slightly longer (from 4877mm to about 4910mm) than the predecessor and will use a new composite steel structure, which is lighter than the current. Also it is expected to use the light axle of the 5 series.Regarding the suspension, entry-level models will wear simple rings, while the most expensive ones will have independent air suspension.
The new X6 is said to be equipped with the new “FlexRay” system, which allows easier and simpler electronic upgrades. Further information is not available, but the system could do everything from upgrading the entertainment system to the electronics chassis.
The engines of the new X6 will include: an upgraded twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0 liter petrol, a sequential twin turbo 3.0-liter diesel and triple turbo 3.0-liter six cylinder engine, as well as the revised twin turbo 4.4 liter V8 petrol units in both which will be equipped on th next generation X6 M. All will benefit from incremental increases in power over today’s units and will have a standard eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Also there are rumors that there will be an X6 ActiveHybrid which will have a plugin hybrid engine, which combines the twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0 liter six cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor.
