In the spring of 2012 MINI had presented the Cooper John Works GP, the strongest and fastest MINI ever built (back then). The car was equipped with a supercharged 1.6 liter four-cylinder engine producing 218 hp and 280 Nm of torque, that enabled it to do the 0-100 km/h in 6.3 seconds and to have a top speed of 242 km/h.

It featured a new, fully adjustable racing suspension lowered by 20 mm, large 6-piston brakes discs with a diameter of 330 mm front and 280 mm rear and 17 inch wheels, with tires sized 215/40. It also had a body kit with new bumpers, spoiler and diffuser. Only 2,000 cars were built by MINI.
