Ford presented the Competition Series for the GT, which focuses on weight reduction. According to Ford, this is the street version of the GT with the highest performance and the one that is the closest one to the car that won in its category, last year’s 24-hour race of Le Mans.
The car has no audio system, air conditioning system, radio, speakers and other storage areas, with the glass cover of the engine being replaced with another one from plexiglass. The windshield of the car is made of Gorilla Glass, which is thinner, lighter, yet more durable than a common windscreen, with the wheels to be built from carbon and to have titanium bolts, so as to minimise the unsprung weight.
The car has carbon fiber on its centre console and on the sill. The black strips that add a more aggressive look to it, are made from carbon, while the its side mirrors are made from the same material. The interior is covered in dark Alcantara, which gives a racing aesthetic to the car.
Ford doesn’t mention any mechanical changes, nor how much weight the car has lost, so the GT Competition Series will be powered by a 3.5-liter bi turbo V6 EcoBoost engine producing 655 hp at 6,250 rpm, with up to 745 Nm of torque at 5,900 rpm.
