The Gumpert Tornante is a car presented by Gumpert 3 years ago at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. The head of Sales Managment and Marketing of Gumpert, Harald Schlegel, said that the production version of the Tornante will be released on the road by 2015.
The production model will be based on the platform of the Apollo and is most likely to be presented in the next year’s Geneva Motor Show and according to Harald Schlegel, it will have a different design from the concept, and it looks like the production photos that were leaked in 2012.
In 2011, the supercar was built in cooperation with Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera and it was ewuipped with a biturbo 4.2 liter V8 engine producing 700 hp and it is expected to have a top speed exceeding the 300 km/h. The car engine is lightweight and weighs 196 kilos and it will be combined with the semi-automatic 6 speed TT40e gearbox derived form the Apollo, that will have paddles on the steering wheel.
It has gullwing opening doors with the monocoque beeing made out of iron and carbon parts which add the necessary balance and security, by keeping the weight low. The suspension consists of double wishbones. It features 19 inch rims at the front and 20 inch at the rear, with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. The total weight of the car will be at 100 to 200 kg more than the weight of the Apollo, because the car is bigger, 100mm in height and 15mm in width, and thus it weighs close to 1300 to 1400 kg depending on the equipment.
