The Porsche 917 is a truly rare car and probably one of the best racing cars of the 20th century, since it has managed to win dozens of championships, including Le Mans, the Can Am and the World Sportscar Championship.
The car is equipped with two six-cylinder boxer engines of the 911 that were joined to the crankshaft, thus creating a 4.5-liter engine, while later the 917 was powered by a 4.9 and a 5.0-liter engine.
The car that you see in the photo above will be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s on 8 February with its estimated selling price being between €4.6 and €5.5 million.
It is an early prototype of the 917/10 and its construction was completed on December 3, 1970, with Porsche never using it in a race, since it was used solely as a test car. After the testing ended Porsche, repaired the car and sold it to Willi Kauhsen, who raced with it in races in the USA, Europe and South America.
