MINI presented in Paris, the largest five-door sibling of the classic Cooper. The five-door MINI Cooper, is designed for those who like the simple MINI, but for whatever reason, they need two extra doors. The length of the model has been increased by 161 mm going up to 4.005 mm and the wheelbase by 72 mm going to 2.567 mm. The effect of increasing external dimensions, is to increase the available space for the knees of the rear passengers by 72 mm and the space for the passengers heads by 11 mm. Finally, it is worth mentioning that the boot has increased by 67 liters, which means that it reaches 278 liters (941 with the rear seats folded).
The design of the five-door Cooper has not changed with the exception of a few “conversions” beyond the addition of the two extra doors. It is built on the UKL platform while it will be available with three turbocharged sets. The main engine is a three cylinder 1.5 liter TwinPower Turbo yielding 136 hp and 200 Nm of torque, there will also be a 1.5 liter, three-cylinder turbodiesel, producing 116 hp and 270 Nm of torque, while the Cooper S edition is equipped with a four-cylinder, two-liter engine that produces 192 hp and 280 Nm of torque. Finally, the Cooper SD version, will be equipped with a two liter turbodiesel of 170 hp and 360 Nm of torque. All engines are combined to either a manual or an automatic 6-speed transmission.
Sales of the 5-door MINI will begin the weeks that come with the price starting in England from €20.350 for the standard version and reaching up to € 25.660 for the Cooper SD.
