Volkswagen presented in Paris the Passat GTE, the plug-in hybrid version of the new Passat. The car will go on sale in the second half of 2015, it will be available in sedan and estate and visually it stands out from the rest of the Passat versions, by its blue decorations, new front bumper with the characteristic “C” LED daytime running lights, large wheels , blue backlight on the inside, new shifter, blue stitching and three-spoke leather steering wheel.
It is equipped with a 1.4 liter TSI that produces 156 hp and an electric motor producing 85 kW (115 hp) and 400 Nm of torque. Together, the entire hybrid set produces 218 hp with the power to pass the road via a six-speed DSG gearbox. The 0-100 km/h comes in less than 8 seconds, with a top speed of 220 km/h. It has an average fuel consumption of 2.0 liters/100 km and emits 45 g/km of CO2. With a 50 liter tank and in combination with the fully charged lithium-ion battery of 9,9 kWh (1,2 kWh higher than those of the Golf GTE), the Passat GTE has a total range of 1,000 km. The battery takes 4.5 hours to charge, using single-socket, while with a quick charger, the time is reduced to 2.5 hours.
