Rumors: The new Volkswagen Beetle will be electric

According to rumors the new Beetle, will be equipped with an electric motor, mounted at the rear. The popularity of retro cars, like the Fiat 500 seems to keep the sales of the Beetle at a good level.

The car is going to also have rear-wheel drive like the BMW i3. The current Beetle does not offers something special, with the exception perhaps of the Beetle Dune, but a rear-wheel drive car with its electric motor mounted in the rear, will have good performance and it will be the definition of a retro future car, since the original Beetle had also its engine at the rear. The new Beetle is expected to be released in 2019.
