It was September 3, 1996 when the production of the first generation of the Skoda Octavia started, in the brand new, then, Skoda factory in Mlada Boleslav in the Czech Republic. The company started developing the Octavia from 1992, one year after they were bought by the VW Group. The Octavia was constructed on the platform of the fourth generation of the Volkswagen Golf.

Deliveries of the car began in 1996, with the owners to choose between two four-cylinder gasoline engines and a four-cylinder turbodiesel. The Octavia family grew in 1998 with the arrival of the Octavia Combi, while in 1999 the four-wheel drive version of the car became available. The first generation of the Octavia stopped being produced in November of 2010, having managed to sell more than 1,440,000 units (970,000 sedans and 470,000 wagons).

However in 2004 Skoda presented the second generation of the Skoda Octavia that stopped production in 2013, having sold 2.5 million Units (1,600,000 sedans and 900.000 wagons). The third generation of the Octavia began production in November of 2012. The Octavia, is manufactured in the Czech Republic, Russia, Kazakhstan, India and China.
