The next generation of the Porsche 911 will have a hybrid version. Dr Frank-Stefan Walliser, head of the Porsche Motorsport department, said that the Carrera 4 plug-in hybrid will be equipped with an electric motor in the front axle, while the rear axle will be powered by an internal combustion engine.

The car will weigh more than the simple 911, but the extra horsepower generated by the hybrid system will balance the disadvantage of the increased weight. The 911 plug-in hybrid will also have a reduced fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions.
