The German company says that the car is as revolutionary, as the Beetle before seven decades, before it became the best-seller car of the last century.
The car features sliding rear doors and a windshield that extends to the roof. The ID Concept shows us how its production version will look like, which will be built on the modular MEB platform and will go in production in 2020. The new platform was designed exclusively for electric models that use lithium ion-batteries.
The car will be equipped with an electric motor producing 168 hp (125kW), with the company not to disclose the capacity of the battery, but to state that when the car will go into production, it will be sold with multiple battery packs as the Tesla models, with its range to start from 400 km and to go up to 600 km in the top version.
Volkswagen wants to manage to reduce significantly the manufacturing cost of electric cars compared to what it is today. These reductions will bring benefits for consumers, as they will be able to buy electric cars at more affordable prices, which will be at the same level as the prices of conventional gasoline or diesel cars. VW’s goal is to have 30 electric cars in their range by 2025, with one-third of their total sales consisting of electric models.
