Ford unveiled the second generation of Edge which will go on sale for the first time also in Europe from the beginning of 2015. The new Edge was designed from the start with a light sporty style and high quality standards, that prevail in Europe and around the world. It is a high quality, technologically advanced and spacious SUV that has four-doors and a five-seat configuration. It will be released for the first time in North America early next year, which will be followed by Europe, South America and Asia.
It is equipped with several systems such as Adaptive Steering, constantly changing the gear ratio according to vehicle speed, to optimize steering response in all conditions, the Active Noise Cancellation technology and the Front Split View Camera. It also features the new Edge Hands-Free Tailgate SYNC 2, the Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Mitigation, the Forward Alert, the Improved Active Park Assist with Perpendicular Parking, the Cross Traffic Alert, Inflatable Rear Seatbelts, Intelligent All Wheel Drive with Torque Vectoring Control and Curve Control, Active City Stop, Blind Spot Information System, Lane Keeping Aid, Traffic Sign Recognition, heated steering wheel and heated air-conditioned front seats.
The exterior features a chrome grille, and subtle embossed LED front headlights, and LED tail lights in a three-dimensional blade shape. It stands on 20 inch rims, while the best quality materials have been used for the interior.The rear suspension is Integral-link, the noise inside the cabin has been minimized by the use of insulation crystals, while its tires are specially selected for noise reduction.
In Europe, Ford will offer the Edge with two versions of the 2.0 Duratorq TDCi diesel engine, a version that will produce 180 hp with 400 Nm of torque and it will have 149 g/km projected emissions of CO2 and a 6-speed manual transmission. The other version will produce 210 hp with 450 Nm torque and it will have 159 g/km projected emissions of CO2 and a 6-speed PowerShift automatic transmission with paddles on the steering wheel.
