Ford in 1964, had constructed a prototype Mustang with a short wheelbase. They had called it 1/2 Ford Mustang III, but the car was given the nickname, “Mustang Shorty”. With 40.6 centimeters shorter wheelbase than the fastback Mustang, the car was equipped with a 5,0 liter V6 engine with three carburetors.
Although Ford had to destroy the car, since there was not in its plans to go into production, the designer, Vince E. Gardner, stole it and hid it in a warehouse. Ford said that the car was stolen, with Gardner disappearing. Thus, the owner of the storage unit, decided to open it and he found the car hidden behind a wall. He called the police and the car is purchased by an employee of the insurance company, who sold it to the current owner who has renovated completely in the early 2000s.
The car will go on auction in late March 2015 and is expected to catch a value between €350.000 and €500.000.
