Land Rover has officially presented in New York, the brand new Range Rover Sport which will go on sale in September. Described as faster and more flexible than ever before, the design borrows elements from the Evoque.
It is 62 mm longer and 149 mm shorter than the previous version, while the wheelbase has been increased by 178 mm. It can accommodate up to 7 people (seating 5 +2) with two rear seats to be folded electronically. Weighs 420 kg less than the previous generation and it has an aerodynamic coefficient 0,34 Cd.
It is equipped with the 3.0 liter SDV6 turbodiesel engine and V8 5,0 liter engine with 503 horsepower. Both come with Start/Stop system and from 2014 it will be available with the TDV6 diesel engine with 254 horsepower, the 4.4-liter 334 horsepower SDV8 engine and the 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine. Later a Plug-in hybrid version will be available, which will have CO2 emissions of just 169 g/km.
All engines send power to all four wheels via an 8 speed automatic transmission from ZF, with a torque ratio of 42 front/58 rear, or 50 front/50 rear. It features a fifth-generation air suspension which borrows many elements from the suspension of the previous Range Rover. However it has been improved to provide better handling, while being more flexible on the road.
At the interior, it has a lower driving position (-20 mm), the head-up display (available on extras), new colors and more space for rear passengers (+24 mm). In England the SDV6 version starts at £ 59.995 and goes up to £ 74.995. The TDV6 version when it will be released in 2014, will start from £ 51.550 while the top Autobiography version at £ 81.550.
