In 2015 Hyundai had presented the Santa Cruz Concept. Some days ago the company officially confirmed that the car will be heading to production and it will be launched initially in the U.S., where pick up trucks are very popular.
This decision of the company comes after pressure from the part of the representatives of Hyundai in the USA that urged the company to move more aggressively in the light pick up truck category after the sales of the sedans models of the company didn’t go particularly well.
“We are optimistic about the future after this decision,” said Scott Fink, CEO of Hyundai of New Port Richey, Florida, which is the largest U.S. dealer of Hyundai, “but we are disappointed that we do not have the product today”.
The Korean company also plans producing three SUV and crossover models until 2020 to reinforce its position in those categories.
The sales of the Sonata, which is the flag ship of Hyundai in the U.S. have decreased by 30% in the first seven months of 2017. In contrast, to the sales of the Hyundai’s current crossover models, that increased by 11% in the same period.
