Volkswagen presented the Tiguan Active GTE Concept, the off-road version of the Tiguan GTE concept that was unveiled in September at the Frankfurt auto show.

The plug-in hybrid concept combines a 1.4 liter TSI engine producing 156 hp and two electric motors, one mounted inside the gear box producing 54 hp and one at the rear axle with 114 hp. The electric motors are powered from a lithium-ion battery of 12,4 kWh, with the system producing a total power of 221 hp, while it is combined with a 6-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission that has been developed specifically for hybrid use and gives the Tiguan GTE a purely electric autonomy of up to 32 km.
The car can do the 0-96 km/h in 6.4 seconds, with its total range reaching 933 km. VW says the Tiguan Active GTE Concept can function either as an all-wheel, a rear-wheel drive or a front-wheel drive car. Its interior features a large touch screen of 9.2 inches that supports gestures and a digital dashboard.
