In the 1990s, Toyota offered three sport models on the market, the Supra, the Celica and the MR2. According to Tetsuya Tada, Chief Engineer of Toyota and Gazoo Racing, the Japanese company is seriously thinking to add a sporty model in their range, so as to offer again three sport models.
Tada hinted that after the GT86 and the Supra, the company is preparing a new sports model that will be ready “as soon as possible”. The new model will be mid-engine and it will incorporate hybrid technology that comes from Toyota’s experience in LMP1 racing cars. No one knows when it is expected to be released, apart from the people of Toyota. However, we don’t expect it to happen sooner than 2020.
